JPEG 2000 Benefits for Post-production, Distribution and Exhibition
With its applications in the Digital Cinema field, the JPEG 2000 format has proven to be the best compression technique for pristine visual quality. This license free, state-of-the-art compression format based on wavelet technology is indeed the chosen format for projecting 2K and 4K resolutions, with the growing numbers of digital copies and projections increasing every week.
Its resolution scalability will seamlessly allow the extraction of small resolution proxies from the full resolution during post-production, or extract the 2K version out of a 4K reel during exhibition.
Also, its intra-frame nature provides low latency processing throughout the whole post-production chain as well as easy editing (butt-splicing). Moreover, its capacity to avoid additional image degradation at each encoding and decoding step provides constant quality multi-generations during the numerous post-production processes.
